Mika Brzezinski apologizes for slamming Mike Pompeo with 'SUPER BAD' homophobic phrase  1 Month ago

Mika Brzezinski began Friday's episode of "Morning Joe" with an apology for what she acknowledged was a "crass and offensive" comment about Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

"I wanted to address a term that I used on the show on Wednesday that was vulgar," she said after explaining her on-air apology was delayed due to a planned absence on Thursday for a family matter. "I knew it right away and I tweeted that it was a terrible choice of words and that I was sorry. But please allow me to say this face-to-face: The term is crass and offensive and I apologize to everyone – especially the LGBTQ community and to my colleagues for using it."

She continued, "It was a mistake and my father (the late diplomat and national security adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski) would have found it so unbecoming and disrespectful and he would have told me. I will work hard to be better but I wanted to look the viewers straight in the eye and say I'm really, really sorry."

Brzezinski's apology did not mention Pompeo who had angered her with his comments downplaying down the Saudi role in the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in an interview with Fox News.

“I understand that Donald Trump doesn’t care,” Brzezinski, 51, had said during Wednesday's show. “But why doesn’t Mike Pompeo care, right now? Are the pathetic deflections that we just heard, when he appeared on ‘Fox & Friends,’ is that a patriot speaking, or a wannabe dictator’s butt boy? I’m dead serious. I’m asking, Are these the words of a patriot?”

As Brzezinski noted during her on-air apology, she was contrite Wednesday when advised by writer/photographer G.E. Anderson not to "equate homosexuality with Mike Pompeo carrying water for the murderous regime in Saudi Arabia,"

"Totally agree with you -SUPER BAD choice of words," she wrote. "I should have said 'water boy'... like for football teams or something like that..."

She added, "SO SORRY!"

Neither apology is will likely satisfy President Donald Trump, who holds Brzezinski and her co-host and husband, Joe Scarborough, in particularly poor regard. On Thursday, he reiterated his belief that the press treats conservatives far more harshly than liberals when covering such incidents.

"If it was a Conservative that said what 'crazed' Mika Brzezinski stated on her show yesterday, using a certain horrible term, that person would be banned permanently from television," he tweeted.
